Youth Groups

College Youth Programme

Term 1

Every Sunday evening the Johnsonville Youth House Leaders have facilitated a Youth Group in Johnsonville. Topics included  Making the most of our Potential, Social Justice, Working in a Team, Leadership, being a community– among many others.  One of our activities is to attend the Onefest happening in J’ville.  The numbers of young people that come along consistently week after week is very encouraging.

From College to Youth House

Youth GroupUnfortunately Challenge 2000 had to close Challenge College our alternative education Centre for 10 students at the end of 2010 due to lack of adequate funding from the Ministry of Education.

This was a very sad day for us as we had successfully educated over 120 students since Challenge College opened in the year 2000.

For ten years we had really made a difference and assisted severely disadvantaged young people to achieve their potential and  contribute to and participate  in our society. There were a few very distressed people – both staff and students last December at our final prize giving.

Youth Group

We hope to open Challenge College again one day though …so if you have any ideas please let us know …education for all is a basic necessity..????

Youth House Opened

However the good news is that we now use this property as a Youth House – a place of hospitality, growth and community where young people can arrive in Wellington, develop and have a , safe foundation to launch themselves into their work, study and places of service.

Blessing of Youth House

Fr Phil Cody blesses the youth house

We also had a Service to remember the people of Christchurch and to pray for those effected by the disasters in Japan.
