In January of this year, Challenge 2000 was invited by Bishop Viard and Mana Colleges by the Ministry of Social Development to provide social workers in both these schools in a new and exciting project for the Porirua area.

This year Nina Ritchie has been a social worker at Mana and has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the team and from what we see in the college reports that they have also really enjoyed having Nina there.

Bernie Faifua and Steve Tamarapa have been the social worker and youth worker respectively at Bishop Viard College and this too has been going really well. This new and exciting partnership between Challenge 2000, the colleges, Child Youth and Family and the Ministry of Social Development has proved to be an effective way of supporting young people and their families to become more resilient and overcome the many difficult situations they face.

Even more exciting is that in July of this year we also agreed to provide a social worker at Porirua College. Phil Skipworth, who has been at Porirua College for some time, moved into this position and we are looking forward to a continued partnership with Porirua College as we develop our social work service at Porirua.
